In the dying embers of the January Transfer Window, Marcel Sabitzer joined Manchester United on loan from Bayern Munich for the remainder of the season.

The move was spurred on by Christian Eriksen’s injury, who joins a growing injury list of defensive midfielders at United including Scott McTominay and Donny van de Beek – ahead of a huge fixture pile up which includes the Europa league.

But what will the Austrian international bring to Erik ten Hag’s squad, and is the player smart business to help secure a top 4 finish? JJ Bull tells us why it’s a very sensible transfer…

Nice vid. That jersey though. 😍 I happen to have it because I ordered a Ronaldo Nazario Barcelona retro shirt but they put the Zidane 1998 shirt in the order as well. I let them know and they said it was an error whilst sorting the orders and that I could keep it.

I am not saying that Sabitzer wasn't a smart buy, but I have watched many of your recent videos on the transfers and for all of them you have said sth similar, that can't possibly be true. Especially considering how awful many of the recent buys have been. Take your list of the biggest transfers in the EPL you showed in the Enzo video, how many of them actually performed as expected? 1, only 1.

That's exactly the difference between a top club like Bayern and a mid club like United. Sabitzer was good at Leipzig, exactly because he played at Leipzig in a system that suited him, but in a real top club like Bayern he got exposed. He's not good technically like Gravenberch, he's not strong or tall like Goretzka and I didn't see him make a single difficult pass all season, which Kimmich tries every single game. He's also not a defensive or pressing monster like Laimer, who's up and coming and I think this really sums Sabitzer up. He's a perfect fit for a Europa level club but at the top level, he fails to deliver.
