In the interests of German football the hope must be that he either stays at Leverkusen or goes abroad. Bayern Munich hoovers up the best talent in the league from their rivals, players and coaches.

Personally, I would much prefer Alonso to stay where he is and see how his brand of football fares in the UCL, and against the likes of Man City and Real Madrid.

Everyone keeps saying "its hard to follow Klopp". This isnt post-Alex era, or post-Pep era. Lfc under Klopp only won the league once. At FCB you are expected to win it every year. Plus Klopp has a wonderful youth system in place for whoever takes over. Which sounds harder to u??? 🤔

I said it when news first broke, if he was as smart (as seems) he would be MAD too accept EPL after such little 'top tier' management exp. IMO toughest job for sometime following Klopp @L'pool (HUGE expectations & pressure of Scousers) I'm sure he'll still be 1st choice in 2-3yrs if/when the next appointee('s) fail I & he has that extra long-term management experience.

As a Liverpool fan I really hope Alonso picks us but he should pick with his head and not his heart. Bayern would be far the better option for him as they can back him and bring in the quality players he needs while also working with quality players and not kids from the academy. Also Bayern will be always challenging for the title and in the Champions league, unlike Liverpool who had one of the greatest ever managers and wasn't backed by FSG. Klopp worked miracles with the transfer budget he had and I doubt any other manager in world football will ever do the same or better, so that leaves us probably in the position we were before he Klopp arrived. I just hope whoever the next Liverpool manager is, the fans back him and if isn't going right, not turn into a club that keeps sacking their managers and actually put the blame on the people in charge, FSG.

To those guys making the case for Xabi to go to Bayern:

"What are you going to do that Klopp hasn't done?"
Why is that a reason not to go? LFC fans haven't decided they don't want success just because Klopp had it.

    " Bayern need rebuilding"
No. They are 2nd in the league and still in the Champions League. The fact that this suggestion comes up because Bayern haven't won the Bundesliga for once in a milenium suggests more of a weakness of the Bundesliga itself, as well as highlighting the incredible job Xabi has done at Leverkusen, more than suggesting there is something terminally wrong at Bayern requiring some major overhaul.

"Emery succeeded Wenger.. it didn't work"
This is also not true. In Wenger's last season, Arsenal finished 6th and were clearly on a decline compared to where they had been for many years up to around 2016. Emery finished 5th the following season and made it to the Europa League final. Yes his tenure did not prove successful, however, suggesting it didn't work because he replaced Wenger is false. Arsenal were in a difficult period where they were losing ground to those ahead and being caught up by those behind. There was a lot of pressure from the fans at the time and a lot of discontent towards the club generally. Emery had a better season than Wenger had. Once it fell apart from there, which was inevitable considering all factors, Arteta was afforded the time to make it right. To be clear… Emery replacing Wenger was not the problem.

"Moyes succeeded Ferguson.. it didn't work"
This is a completely different situation. There has not been a situation like this since and there probably never will be. Stop comparing every manager that lasts more than 12 months and has had some success to some inevitable failure that follows because it didn't work for Man Utd when Fergie left. It's different. Always will be.

Open talks means they tried to contact him doesn't mean he even replied or even interested 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 why would he go to a farmers league

I couldn't agree less with these pundits on why to choose Bayern over Liverpool. There might be a guaranteed title but previous managers with a reputation have failed; Nagelsman, Tuchel. There is clearly something wrong at the club and he will be expected to win everything as soon as he comes in, not to mention it immediately tarnishes his Leverkusen legacy.

Both clubs represent a risk; following Klopp or ridiculous expectation at Bayern.

However following Klopp will be easier than Wenger and Fergie because 1. He hasn't been there as long 2. The club has been run immpeccably; refurbished stadium, state of the art academy and training facilities.

Also Arsenal were on the decline for years under Wenger and United's squad was past it.

I think Liverpool have a little bit of that i.e. VVD and Salah pushing on a bit and might leave but they've also got a lot of quality players under 30; nunez, jota, diaz, mac allister, szbozlai, konate etc

Their reasons for why they wouldn't take the Liverpool job is exactly what separates good managers from the best. If Xabi Alonso doesn't back himself to take over a world class squad that Klopp has assembled then he is not Liverpool material!

I wouldn't want a manager who goes for the safe option.

A world class coach would look past the Klopp story and see that squad plus those stable owners plus a supporter base that won't ever chant for him to get the sack no matter what and want to be a part of that.
