Here is Why JAMAL MUSIALA is SO SPECIAL

While everyone’s talking about Golden Boy Gavi and discussing Bellingham’s $150 million price tag, there’s a player in Munich who is quite capable of overshadowing his star counterparts. We’re gonna tell you about the phenomenon of Jamal Musiala right now, so subscribe to Vamosito and let’s get started!

Origin

At the age of 19, Jamal Musiala is currently Bayern Munich’s top scorer in the Bundesliga. Moreover, he’s leading both in goals and assists, having 7 + 5 in 11 matches. Despite his young age, this is Jamal’s third season in senior football. But let’s start from the beginning.

The talented midfielder came to light for the first time in the world press because of the story of choosing his national team. The fact is that he was born in Germany, but he moved to England at the age of 7. He played for the Three Lions national youth team, but after moving to Bayern three years ago, he decided to play for the Germany national team.

Jamal fell in love with football from an early age. Branko Milenkowski, one of Musiala’s first coaches, told Goal.com an unusual story about the then 6-year-old kid. The boy had a habit of applauding after opponents scored beautiful goals against his team. The coach said he tried to wean Jamal from that because it was driving his teammates crazy.

Musiala moved to England at the age of 7 because of his mom. She studied and later worked in Southampton, so her son followed her. Jamal didn’t know the language, so the kid’s socialization took place on football fields. He played for Southampton Central Football Club for children of immigrants and those from low-income families.

It was there that he was noticed by Southampton, where Musiala was invited in 2010. His start was so impressive there that Jamal moved to Chelsea a year later. The boy showed his intelligence not only on the pitch. He quickly learned the language, and his progress was supported by a victory in a poetry contest. In addition, he combined football with a chess club and also attended classes in the Korean martial art of Hapkido.

Bayern started watching the player in 2015, and managed to sign him 4 years later. What happened next already looks like the beginning of a great story.

In game

Musiala has a wide range of skills as a player. However, first of all, we should talk about his phenomenal ability to find space between the opposition’s lines and receive passes in that zone.

This alone makes Jamal able to beat teams almost single-handedly. For example, in this season’s Bundesliga matchday 1, Munich beat Eintracht 6-1. Jamal scored a brace, but that’s not the main thing. He received a double-digit number of passes between the opposition’s defense and midfield.

Essentially, the lion’s share of Bayern’s attacks followed a similar pattern, with Musiala receiving a progressive pass between the lines and then intensifying play with a solo take-on or dangerous pass.

Musiala constantly scans the space and looks for free zones on the pitch. The way he interprets space was also noted by Hansi Flick when he coached the Munich team, “The way he frees himself from marking in situations where he should be under a lot of pressure is impressive.”

Here’s just one of the examples to confirm these words. In one of the episodes of a match against Bayer, Jamal tried to find a favorite position between the opponent’s lines to receive a pass at the build-up stage. However, the attack unfolded differently and the ball went to Thomas Müller on the wing. Musiala got immediately involved in the episode, analyzed the space, found an open zone and, before even receiving a pass from Thomas, saw the development of the attack. And the pass to Davies is just beautiful.

“It’s like Jamal calculates several attack scenarios at once. Even before receiving the ball, he always knows what he’ll do. This detail of his style impresses the most,” Bayern legend Lothar Matthaus praised Musiala.

Because of his game intelligence and ability to analyze the game, Jamal is a very versatile offensive player. Looks like his childhood love of chess had a positive effect on the kid’s intelligence and he transferred these skills to the football field.

Due to his versatility, Musiala has been tried on almost every midfield position. He played number 8 in a pair of defensive midfielders and in all positions behind a center-forward. And at the Chelsea academy he even got to know the center-forward role. Although Jamal admits that this is not what he liked the most, “I don’t wish to be a forward again. But if the coach demands it, then no problem. Still, I prefer the position of a ten or a place on the wings,” Jamal said.
